New forecasts from Juniper Research confirm the direction of travel for accounts payable. Our view: automating the invoices is the easy part. The intelligence on top is what counts.
New research from Juniper Research forecasts that the time businesses save through accounts payable (AP) automation will rise from 4.6 billion hours a year in 2026 to 6.2 billion by 2031, growth of 34%.
The firm credits one driver above all others: integration. As AP automation is wired into the systems businesses already run, chiefly enterprise resource planning (ERP) and accounting software, the manual keying of procurement data falls away. Vendors are increasingly competing on the breadth of their integrations, and Juniper expects the next phase of growth to come from less saturated markets as Western demand matures.
We agree with the direction. We would go further on what it is for.
Automating the pipe is just the start
Most AP automation does one job: it moves a transaction from purchase request to paid bill with less manual effort. Capture the invoice, match it to the order, route it, pay it, post it. OmniPATH does all of that, end to end.
But an invoice that is processed faster is still an invoice nobody has read. Automation that only speeds up the process leaves you as blind to what is inside it, the price that moved, the duplicate, the credit you were owed, as you were before. Faster is not the same as in control.
What makes OmniPATH different is not the pipe. It is the intelligence sitting on top of it: a platform that manages your data, understands how your sites, budgets and cost centres actually fit together and then goes to work on what the numbers reveal.
27 agents that never sleep
Behind every OmniPATH account sit 27 agents, the Watchers, monitoring your spend around the clock. Duplicates. Fraud patterns. Price rises. Collusion. Misreads. Every transaction is re-checked every 30 minutes and ranked by severity, so whatever most deserves your attention is always at the top of the list, not buried three months deep in a ledger nobody opens.
This is the part a manual finance team cannot do and most software does not attempt. People check what they have time to check. The Watchers check everything, continuously and never have an off day.
LEDGE, your finance intelligence officer
On top of our agents sits LEDGE. Ask it about spend, cash flow, forecasts, prices or approvals and it answers in plain English, with the rows to prove it. Not another dashboard to interpret or a report to export and pick apart. A direct answer to a direct question, with the underlying evidence attached.
Underneath, automated reconciliation keeps OmniPATH and your ERP in agreement, so the picture you are looking at is always the real one.
How transparent is your cash, really?
OmniPATH opens with an Operations Snapshot: a day-zero read on where you actually stand. How transparent is your cash and how much of it is hidden behind obscure ledger codes nobody has decoded? Then it measures how far you move from there. Not a one-off audit, but a baseline you improve, so the value is visible and the progress is yours.
The hours saved are only half the story
This is why we keep returning to the same point. Juniper’s headline is time and it expects large businesses to save the most, over 17,000 hours a year on average against roughly 140 for the average business. Report author Michael Greenwood puts the gap down to the structure of large finance teams.
All true. But time is the benefit you notice last. The money is the one you notice first.
The same connection that saves the hours is what lets the agents surface the money: the price that crept up between deliveries, the duplicate that got paid twice, the credit that was promised and never raised. Typically that is 5 to 8% of supplier spend, almost always money that was already there and simply invisible. Processing invoices faster saves admin. Reading them properly recovers margin.
Built for the operators in the middle
Juniper is right that large enterprises are the most cost-effective to automate: they have the volume, the dedicated teams and the specialists. Most operators do not. Run several sites across hospitality, care, retail, construction or education on a lean finance function and that enterprise advantage has always been out of reach.
The intelligence layer is what closes the gap. Because OmniPATH understands your unit hierarchy and watches every site at once, a mid-sized operator gets the enterprise-grade view, a true picture of what it buys, what it pays and where the money goes, without an enterprise-grade finance team to run it.
Ready for the shift to digital
The bigger shift is global. E-invoicing mandates are rolling out across economies worldwide and the UK joins them when its transition to mandatory B2B e-invoicing begins in April 2029. Yet by Juniper’s own count, 78% of UK businesses still receive at least some invoices on paper today. OmniPATH extracts clean, line-level data from whatever arrives now, whether PDF, email or scanned paper, so operators capture the value immediately and are ready for the machine-readable standard as it lands.
“Everyone is racing to automate the admin and they should, the hours are real,” said Simon Haynes, Founder and CEO of OmniPATH. “But moving an invoice through faster does not tell you the price just rose, or that you paid it twice. Our difference is the analysis and the intelligence: 27 agents watching every transaction and LEDGE answering in plain English with the evidence to back it up. We do the end-to-end process, then we do the part that actually protects your margin.”

About OmniPATH AI
OmniPATH AI is a UK procurement and accounts payable platform built for multi-site operators across hospitality, care, retail, construction and education. Built for Operations. Trusted by Finance. It manages the end-to-end flow from purchase request to paid bill, then adds the layer that sets it apart: 27 agents monitoring every transaction for duplicates, fraud, price rises and more, and LEDGE, a finance intelligence officer that answers questions on spend, cash flow and forecasts in plain English, with the data to prove it. The result is recoverable spend surfaced and cash made transparent, typically five figures a year. Founded by Simon Haynes and Sarah Haynes, OmniPATH was named Leading AI Procurement & AP Automation Platform 2026 in the SME News UK Finance Awards. omnipath.ai
